My experiences in Darulaceze

When did you think about dead latest? Have you ever cried for dead? or Have you ever seen humbleness in somebody’s eyes? I did, When I went to Darulaceze, I did all of theese. I thought about dead. I cried for dead, and I saw humbleness in somebody’s eyes. The week which is my first week on practicum project, was only an assignment for me. I have decided to work in Darulaceze which is in Kayışdağı, becouse it was closer than the others, but not much, only one week later it become really big opportunity for understanding life and humbleness. Darulaceze is very old foundation, like the people who live in it. These people have a lot of differences their lifestyles, their jobs, and their cultures different from eachother.

Darulaceze has founded in 1985 by goverment. Their aim was “helping people” who are helpless , old and without relations. Now they are a servant with humbleness people at a lot of difference center. They accept somebody who wants to help them for looking after old people. Four months ago my three friends and I have started to work there. I was afraid on first week. Because going to Darulaceze was an assignment for me, and I did not know anything about what should I do. Three weeks later , I become a person from them, because I was working with patience and love. If you do not like to go there, you can not work easily. The necesity is “Patience and Love”. I have done a lot of importance thing. Also they had to go to educational activities, but they were not going to them, so our function was talking with them convincingly, with our struggle they persuaded to go activities. We have made designed some jewelery , we have painted wooden objects. Designing, and painting was easy, but persuading people was the most difficult one. They were very obdurate.

We worked on women part. There were some women, and I guess I will never forget them. One of them is Mrs. Mehpare. When she was a child her family have emigrated to Izmir (Turkey) from Egypt. People are calling her as “our exhilarating” becouse you can not see her sour faced. She smiles everytime. People admire her words. Everytime she is giving thanks to God for everything. Acording to her , everybody should have own philosophy. In this philosophy there should be thanks, virtue, respect, and love. I have learned a lot of things from her. Speaking with her enormous spirit in order to me.

There was a different women who I can not forget. She was a bit different from the other women. She was the granddoughter of “Sadrazam Mehmet Pasha” sardazam means:
In Ottoman empire , there is a king, and some people are his assistance. Sadrazam is the best assistance of king. She told me her lifestory. Her name is Nimet Saba. Mrs. Saba was very old. She is 92 years old. She said that she had worked as a model in Paris. While the people who walk on Paris streets saw her , they always said that: “Oh la, la.. you are looking like Venus. ( Venus is a mytologic god from Greek ) she knows three language. They are French, Greek , and Italian. She has had a film studio in Paris, but then she have become poor. I have wondered how she become poor, but she did not talk about this, so she had to stay in Darulaceze. She was missing her early life, because she was living in palace,but now she is living with a lot of people. Still the was giving thanks to god. Unfortunately the officals gave us the bad news. Two weeks ago Mrs. Saba has been dead. Still I am really upset. But what can I do? Nothing. Becouse it is real life.

In conclusion, Darulaceze was really big experience for me. I have met a lot of old women. I learnt to design jewelery and painting wooden objects. I learnt one more thing. We are living in a different world, and in this world there are dead and live. Mrs. Saba taught me this life lesson. I will never forget the people who are living in Darulaceze, and I keep to go there.
